Kincsesbánya, Hungary – August 4, 2019 - PolandPassport.com, the leading worldwide Polish citizenship and European Union (EU) passport advocacy agency for those with Polish descent, is proud to announce that its founder, Neil Kaplan, Head of Delegation for the Polish Maccabi Team and Captain of the Poland cycling team, finished 17th in the cycling road race – a record finish for the Polish team - held in the verdant hills of Kincsesbánya, Hungary at the European Maccabi Games (EMG).
Kaplan’s performance came on a very warm day and hilly course 60 miles outside of Budapest.
The European Maccabi Games are held every four years and are always held two years after the Maccabiah Games are held in Israel. European delegations send their best Jewish sportsmen and women to compete.
Kaplan finished 45th in the 2017 Maccabiah Games cycling Time Trial held in Israel during his previous cycling experience at the Games.
Kaplan said, “I am honored to represent Poland with my son, Harry, at these Games. On behalf of Team Poland, I am delighted with the outcome of today’s race.The course at Kincsesbánya was challenging and I gave it every ounce of energy that I had.Thanks to the Maccabi organization for putting together such a well run and competitive event.”
Next on the agenda is the finals of the fencing competition where Harry Kaplan in is the running for a medal in multiple competitions. Harry’s sister, Julie, is currently the only Junior medalist in Polish Maccabiah games history (bronze, 2017).
More than 2,300 athletes from 42 different nations will compete in a total of 19 disciplines at the European Maccabi Games. Prague hosted the first ever European Maccabi Games in 1929, followed by Antwerp a year later. After a 30-year hiatus, the Jewish games finally returned to European soil as Copenhagen hosted the 1959 competition.
