PolandPassport.com Founder Neil Kaplan named Head of Delegation for the Poland National Maccabi Team at the 2019 European Maccabi Games in Budapest, Hungary
Los Angeles, Calif. – July 12, 2019 - PolandPassport.com, the leading worldwide Polish citizenship and European Union (EU) passport advocacy agency for those with Polish descent, is proud to announce that its founder, Neil Kaplan, has been named Head of Delegation for Team Poland at the 2019 European Maccabi Games (EMG) later this month in Budapest, Hungary.
The European Maccabi Games are held every four years and are always held two years after the Maccabiah Games are held in Israel. European delegations send their best Jewish sportsmen and women to compete
Kaplan, who captained the Polish Men’s cycling team in Israel in 2017 at the 20th Maccabiah Games and will again be competing in the cycling time trial and road race competitions, will be joined by his son, Harry Kaplan, who will captain the Polish fencing team. Kaplan is also the former President of Tribe Media, Inc. parent company of The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles which is one of the USAs largest and most influential ethnic media publications and web site.
Speaking about his appointment, Kaplan said “Having been involved with Team Poland since 2017, I am both honored and excited to have been appointed to be Head of Delegation for Team Poland. We are looking forward to building on 2017’s record setting performance and building on the strong foundation of the team at the 2017 Maccabiah Games and hopefully come home with a medal.”
In 2017 in Israel, Team Poland garnered 2 Gold and 1 Bronze medals in what was a record setting performance for the Polish squad.
On what it means to represent Poland’s Jewish community, “My experiences at the last Maccabiah Games have been life changing and now to have the opportunity to pass on my knowledge, experience, passion, and love of sport to others is exciting.
Poland’s Jewish community is proud and growing and I am humbled by being asked to represent our team.”
Kaplan’s son Harry, a competitive sabre fencer whose fencing career began at the age of 9, will be following in the footsteps of his sister, foil fencer Julie Kaplan, who brought home the first ever medal (Bronze) for a Junior (under 18 participant) in Team Poland’s history in the 2017 games.
Harry Kaplan said, “I’m really excited to represent Poland in the fencing competition and am honored to follow my sister’s legacy in Polish fencing. My aim is to continue the momentum and get Team Poland on the map with another medal.”
Held in late July 2019, around 2,100 athletes from 40 different nations compete in a total of 19 disciplines at the European Maccabi Games. Prague hosted the first ever European Maccabi Games in 1929, followed by Antwerp a year later. After a 30 year hiatus, the Jewish games finally returned to European soil as Copenhagen hosted the 1959 competition.
