PolandPassport.com Celebrates Founder Neil Kaplan’s son, Harry, Winning Two Silver Medals, One Bronze in Fencing at the 2019 European Maccabi Games; First-Ever Three Medal Effort for Polish Athlete in Single Maccabi Games

Budapest, Hungary – August 5, 2019 - PolandPassport.com, the leading worldwide Polish citizenship and European Union (EU) passport advocacy agency for those with Polish descent, is proud to announce that, Harry Kaplan,
son of founder, Neil Kaplan, Head of Delegation for the Polish Maccabi Team won two silver and one medals in the fencing competitions at the European Maccabi Games (EMG) held in Budapest, Hungary.

Harry is the first Polish athlete in Maccabi history to garner three medals during a single Games. Harry was accompanied at the medal ceremony by his parents and a diplomat from the Polish embassy in Budapest.

Competing in multiple disciplines, Harry garnered second place in the individual and team Junior sabre events, and third in the Junior foil team event. Although the only fencer from Poland, Harry was part of an international team that finished on the podium in both of the team events.

The European Maccabi Games are held every four years and are always held two years after the Maccabiah Games are held in Israel. European delegations send their best Jewish sportsmen and women to compete in the games.

Speaking about Harry Kaplan’s accomplishment, Head of Delegation, Neil Kaplan said, “I am so honored to represent Poland with my son, Harry, at these Games. On behalf of Team Poland, we are all thrilled with Harry’s record-setting achievements. He has set the bar on both success and sportsmanship and I hope Harry’s actions at these games will be an inspiration for future young Polish Jewish athletes. We will remember these days for a lifetime.”

In the 2013 European Maccabi Games in Berlin, the Polish squad won a single silver medal.

Harry Kaplan said, “Competing on behalf of the Polish Jewish community was an honor. Even more exciting for me was the opportunity to share this in these great moments with my parents in attendance. I am proud to continue my family’s legacy in Poland Maccabi fencing.”

Harry Kaplan’s sister, Julie, was previously the only Junior medalist in Polish Maccabiah games history (bronze, 2017).

More than 2.300 athletes from 42 different nations compete in a total of 19 disciplines at the European Maccabi Games. Prague hosted the first ever European Maccabi Games in 1929, followed by Antwerp a year later. After a 30-year hiatus, the Jewish games finally returned to European soil as Copenhagen hosted the 1959 competition.
